Videos of Paris

Here are a few videos that caught my attention online while getting ready for our trip to Paris. Above, " A Trip to Paris - A Short Documentary " by Douglas Benge. This next video is " Notre Dame de Paris " by the World Sites Guide. I love the historical references in this video. Gabriel Traveler posted " A Tour of Paris: Walking from the Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower ". He picked a bright sunny day in the winter to take his walk. I love the music along the way and at the end. This one is well worth the watch. Rick Steves does a ton of videos all throughout Europe. This " Highlights of Paris: Eiffel and Monet to Creme Brulee " is great. I can hardly wait to try escargot straight from their shells. Thanks Rick! Hermione Chantal posted this next video of Paris landmarks " 10 Things To Do In Paris | Travel Guide ". Hermione recounts many of the sites that the other videos here visit. She does mention a

Where To Stay in Paris

Paris has no shortage of hotels. There is certainly a wide selection with a style and price-range to suit nearly everyone. Having never been there, I've been scouring Internet search results and travel sites. I think I have our rooms figured out. They are refundable so I can change them if I find something better, but I've booked a couple of rooms not too far from Notre Dame. The price is good. The location, from what I can tell from the online photos and map, is great. Unless something better catches my attention, I have us two rooms for two nights in Paris reserved. Two nights (three days) is a short, short stay in such a jewel of a city; but we have other cities to fit into the trip. More details to follow. Get email alerts when I add posts. Paris with Two Years High School French

I am heading to Paris next month with only two years of high school French backing me up. Plus, high school was thirty (30) years ago! Mr. Bell did his best, but I'm sure I was not as attentive as I could have been as we conjugated French verbs at Georgiana High School. What amazing luck that we have Google and YouTube now. Ã‰tonnant! I am refreshing my memory and this short video above by Jay Swanson " How to Survive Ordering in a Parisian Cafe " is my first stop. I've typed up a few of the phrases that Jay mentions in his video that should come in handy at cafes in Paris. Thanks Jay! And thanks, Mr. Bell! ENGLISH FRENCH Two for here Deux sur place Four for here Quatre sur place To Go Emporter A pitcher of water Une carafe d'eau * I would like Je voudrais I would like a coffee Je voudrais un cafe I would like some orange juice

History and Facts about Paris Landmarks

It is great to visit different cities and sites around the world. It is even nicer to know a little about their history and facts. Since I'll be in Paris the last week of this year, I'm using this page to learn more about the Arc de Triomphe (great video by WorldSiteGuides above), the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and more famous Paris landmarks. The official website for the Arc de Triomphe is  http://www.arcdetriompheparis.com/ . Their site has tons of great information about the arc. Here are a few facts, but don't neglect to read through their site. The Arc de Triomphe was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to honor the French army - the Grande Armee. Construction was stopped between 1814 and 1826 after Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo and exiled. The Arc de Triomphe was finished in 1836. Napoleon never saw its completion as he died in 1821. This next video by WorldSiteGuides "Eiffel Tower, Paris" offers many insights to the Eiffel Tower. For instance, Pari

Things To Do In Paris

I am researching things to do in Paris. Online searches pop-up with the big ones: Eiffel Tower, Musee du Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Notre-Dame, Champs-Elysees and plenty more. The map below shows everything to be pretty close and easy to cover over a few days - at least a few of the big ones for our first trip to Paris. This trip, like our other three family vacations in Europe, will be over the last week of December so the weather will probably be chilly (although our first trip to Europe back in 2015 was unusually warm except for that one day at Stonehenge). The one thing we have on our list as an absolute MUST is to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower (Don't worry, Momma. There is an elevator). I have done this in Las Vegas so, of course, I have got to do this at the original. It is at the top of Kayla, Troy and Momma's lists as well. Something I imagine most tourists do not include on their lists is the Bibliotheque Nationale de France - The National Library of France. I s

London - Paris - Chamonix Mont Blanc - St.Albans

London - Paris - Chamonix Mont Blanc - St.Albans This itinerary is not fixed yet. So far, we have only booked the round-trip airfare between Atlanta and London. Even though I've put dates and times on this paper napkin map, these are only just ideas right now (but putting them on paper gets them a little closer to reality). We do pack a lot into these European vacations. Get email alerts when I add posts. Things To Do In London

On our 2018 European Vacation, we will have a couple of days in London. Troy, Momma and I have been to London before. This will be Kayla's first trip to London or any of England, in fact. While all four of us will appreciate seeing Big Ben, the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guard, I am looking for some new sites and happenings to add to this trip. The above picture is from the Sanderson London's Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea . Troy, Momma and I have done afternoon tea in London on our first trip to Europe back in 2015; but it would be great to do it again - traditionally very British. I got the idea from the below video posted by Samuel and Audrey on YouTube. Another place mentioned in the video above is Neal's Yard off of Seven Dials. It looks colorful and a lot like Harry Potter scenes from London.  https://www.sevendials.co.uk/#nogo Cahoots is also mentioned in Audrey's video for late night drinks. Not sure if our mother will

We're Heading Back to Europe!

Countdown to London Countdown  Yes, we are heading back to Europe for our third European Family Vacation! I'll be going again with my brother, Troy, and our mother, Annette. Plus, our oldest niece, Kayla, is going as well this time. There are sure to be a lot of great stories to come back from this one. What do we know so far? We have booked our flights. On 12/25/2018, we are flying non-stop from Atlanta to London. On 01/02/2019, we are flying back to the United States via London to Atlanta. All the time in Europe is still undetermined, but we are looking at options that would include London, the French Alps, Paris and St. Albans. I have booked a EURail Global Pass for 5 days of travel that will get us back and forth between London and Paris and wherever else we decide to travel by train while in Europe.
