Our Last Day in England

Our Last Day in England

Our last day in England started very well with an English breakfast in the downstairs restaurant at the Broome Park Hotel underneath a huge chandelier and windows looking out over rolling pastures behind the house. We enjoyed our food, coffee and juice and reluctantly waited for our taxi driver to arrive.

The ride to Heathrow was easy. Check-in was just as easy other than the problem where I could not check-in Momma using the kiosk due to her name on her passport versus the airline ticket. Security was easy for all of us except for Kayla. She got held up going through inspection because she had who knows what all so they had to manually inspect her bag. It did not take too long and it was okay because we had plenty of time before our flight.

We ate at a restaurant not too far after security and then walked through Tiffany's and on to our gate. It wasn't too much of a wait before we loaded the plane. We had all four seats in the middle - Momma, me, Kayla, Troy. We watched probably three movies apiece coming back. Troy watched one comedy and laughed out loud the entire movie. I started "Mission Impossible - Fallout" again just to see our hotel in the movie and we also saw the nightclub we went to on the first night in Paris. Pretty cool.

Back in Atlanta, customs went smoothly; made it back to international parking and reloaded Kayla's Jeep (although that was a bit of an effort) and Troy drove us back. There was a lot of misunderstanding about who was meeting who where. April said it was raining so hard that she could not get her SUV across the muddy roads so she was not going to be able to meet us. After a couple of heartfelt calls, she and Troy had straitened out their misunderstanding and she met us at Kayla's with Tucker.

Troy and I stayed at Momma's that night. The next morning, I headed back to Perdido Key and Troy headed off to Mississippi with Tucker. Our Europe trip was over. We all had a terrific time in England and France and all of us shared experiences that were new to all of us. The Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Eurostar, the Louvre, sleeping on the Seine, Breakfast on the Seine, escargot, walking across Tower Bridge, our night in a haunted English manor house - these all made a trip that none of us will soon forget (and we've got this blog for when our memories do start to fade). Special thanks to Howard for meeting us in London, Milan and Christina for welcoming us to their New Years Eve Party and apologies to Howard and Lesley for not making their NYE Party. Cheers, everyone; and happy new year! We wish you all the very best for 2019!

Where will we be going for our 2019/2020 European Vacation? We are already thinking about our options and welcome any suggestions. Post your suggestions as a comment below. Thanks!

The Louvre and the Petit Palais

Saturday 12/29/2018 The Louvre and the Petit Palais The nightclub on the barge across the river from our hotel parties all night long - all the way through 8am. We did not get much rest. After another 30 euro breakfast, we walked up to the subway station for a taxi to the Louvre. It was a good weather day and there was a long, long line waiting to get into the Louvre. Luckily, I knew about the secret entrance on the side. We walked over to the side entrance. Momma and Troy and Kayla doubted me, but there was an open door and no wait when we got there. It was incredible! If you are facing the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel with the Pyramids behind you, walk past the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel to the far left buildings of the Louvre - Easy Entrance! Tell them Noah sent you! We did not see even a quarter of the Louvre, but we did see the Mona Lis a (we could not believe that the museum does not control traffic flow in that room), the Winged Victory of Samothrace . the Venus di Milo

Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower

Friday 12/28/2018 Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower Our first full day in Paris had a LOT in store for us. We had breakfast at the hotel (30 euros per person) and then we all walked along the Seine to Notre Dame. The walk along the banks of the Seine was really enjoyable seeing the boat traffic and boats tied to the river banks. It is a nice relaxing walk away from the hustle and bustle of Paris. Once we got to Notre Dame, however, we unfortunately stood in line behind an Asian lady who scowled at us because Momma and I joined Troy and Kayla in line in front of her. We let her go ahead of all of us without any 'merci' or 'thank you' or acknowledgement - just a scowl. She later, only three or four minutes later, let her husband and daughter join her in line without asking us. Horrible woman. Luckily, the line moved quickly and we never saw her again in Paris. We toured the cathedral which is a truly inspiring work of art in itself. We were going to walk upstairs to
